Saint Febronia was a brave Christian who stood up to Diocletian's terror. When her convent heard of a Roman detachments arrival to slaughter them, all the nuns fled save for Febronia and two others. One was the abbot. This is the moment pictured. After her arrest, Febronia was tortured without mercy. With savagery beyond comprehension. She was mutilated, burnt, beat, bludgeoned and bloodied. Yet through it all, she held firmly to the faith.
